Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr’s 90-year-old mother, Ann, was forced to evacuate her home in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles as wildfires raged on Tuesday into Wednesday morning. The area was one of three locations where fires broke out, with the first starting near a nature preserve in the inland foothills northeast of Los Angeles and the third occurring in the San Fernando Valley.

Kerr spoke about the harrowing situation after the team’s 114-98 loss to the Miami Heat, expressing his concern for those affected by the fires. “I want to send my thoughts and condolences to everybody in Los Angeles dealing with the fires,” he said. “My mom lives in Pacific Palisades. She had to evacuate.”

Everett Dayton, a member of the organization’s player development department, lost his family home in the area, Kerr said. The coach emphasized the importance of perspective, stating that the game is secondary to the devastation caused by the fires.

The fires were fueled by high winds, with gusts topping 60 mph in some areas and increasing to 70 mph by early Wednesday. A high-wind warning was in effect for the region through 6 p.m. PT.
