A joint statement was released Monday by twelve Los Angeles and Anaheim sports teams announcing that they would collectively contribute more than $8 million to support the victims of the wildfires that have plagued the area since last week. The Anaheim Ducks, Angel City FC, LAFC, LA Galaxy, Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Chargers, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Kings, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Rams, and Los Angeles Sparks will be contributing the funds.

The money will go towards supporting those affected by the wildfires and the organizations fighting the fires. Beneficiaries include the American Red Cross, Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, California Fire Foundation, Eaton Canyon Fire Relief and Recovery Fund, World Central Kitchen, California Community Foundation Wildlife Recovery Fund, Team Rubicon, and several local animal rescue organizations.

Additionally, around $3 million worth of Fanatics merchandise will be distributed to Los Angeles residents who were forced to evacuate their homes due to the wildfires. The distribution events will take place on January 17 at Dodger Stadium, SoFi Stadium, and BMO Stadium.

The wildfires have resulted in dozens of fatalities, thousands of structures burned, and the cancellation or postponement of several sporting events, including the Rams’ playoff game, which was relocated to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The Lakers had their game against the San Antonio Spurs postponed last week due to the fires, and their current game has been dedicated to the Los Angeles community.

The teams and their foundations, in partnership with Fanatics and the Fanatics Foundation, have organized the merchandise giveaway to provide assistance to those affected. The wildfires continue to pose a threat to the area, and officials warn that the situation is not yet resolved.
