California shooting: Two students wounded, gunman killed

Shooting at California Christian School Leaves Two Students Wounded, Suspected Gunman Dead

A shooting at the Feather River Adventist School in Butte County, California left two students, ages 5 and 6, wounded on Wednesday. The shooting occurred just before 2 p.m. when a man, who was discussing enrolling a student, arrived at the school’s campus to meet with the principal.

However, the meeting quickly took a turn for the worse as the principal heard shots being fired and determined that the two young students had been shot. The victims were taken to a hospital, with one being transported by helicopter.

The suspected gunman, whose identity has not been released, is believed to have taken his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. According to the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect was dropped off at the school by a gray 4-door sedan, which may have been a ride-sharing vehicle.

Speaking to reporters, Sheriff Kory Honea described the incident as “horribly tragic” and expressed relief that the students were able to be reunited with their parents. The school, which serves children in kindergarten through eighth grade, had an enrollment of 33 students in 2022.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, but authorities say there was no indication that the suspect had any prior contact with the school or the two victims. The school and the sheriff’s office have not responded to requests for comment.
