California parents, Bruce and Joan Sindorf, are urging Governor Gavin Newsom to intervene and stop the release of their daughter’s killer, Jose Soto, who is set to be paroled on November 12, 2022.
The Sindorfs’ 17-year-old daughter, Lauralyn, was brutally murdered in 1995 after being lured to a park by Soto, who was 17 at the time. The case was highly publicized, and Soto was convicted of her murder and sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.
The Sindorfs have been fighting for justice for their daughter for over 25 years and are shocked and outraged that Soto is now eligible for release. They claim that Soto has not truly accepted responsibility for his crime and has shown no remorse for Lauralyn’s death.
“We’re devastated and outraged that our daughter’s killer is being released,” Bruce Sindorf said in a statement. “It’s a slap in the face to our family and to everyone who has worked so hard to keep him behind bars. We need the governor to step in and make sure justice is served.”
Lauralyn’s murder was a senseless and brutal crime that left a lasting impact on the community. The Sindorfs believe that releasing Soto would be a betrayal of their daughter’s memory and would send the wrong message to society.
“We’re not asking for revenge, we’re asking for justice,” said Laurie Sindorf. “We want our daughter’s killer to acknowledge what he did and to make amends. Instead, he’s being released to society again, without any real accountability. It’s devastating and heartbreaking.”
The Sindorfs are now urging Governor Newsom to use his executive power to stop Soto’s release, citing his own commitment to public safety and his desire to reform the state’s parole system.
“We understand that Soto is entitled to parole, but we implore the governor to use his power to stop his release,” Bruce Sindorf said. “Lauralyn’s memory deserves better, and so does the community. We need the governor to stand up for us, for justice, and for the victims of crime.”
