A California man who had been missing for 25 years was identified by his sister after his picture was printed in a USA Today article in April. However, the joyous discovery revealed disturbing details. Tommy Manizak, the long-lost brother of Marcella (Marcie) Nasseri, is a registered sex offender who was convicted in 1993 and served three years in county prison.

Manizak was reported missing in 1999, but the investigation was hindered because he was never fingerprinted, despite being told to do so. He was later admitted to a hospital in the Los Angeles area, but was transferred to another hospital in July, which triggered the police to run his fingerprints through the database and discover his 1993 sex offender listing.

Manizak had registered as a sex offender in Lassen County, but failed to reregister in his new location in Oregon. His family described him as a “free soul” who had been floating around since leaving town.

Despite the disturbing details, Nasseri is still overjoyed to reconnect with her brother and has stated that she will not turn her back on him. “He’s still my brother, and I’m not turning my back on my flesh and blood,” she said. “I love him and I’ve been looking for 25 years – all the other stuff is outside noise, he’s my brother and I love him.”
