CNN’s Kyung Lah speaks with California Gov. Gavin Newsom about the wildfires ravaging Los Angeles and the surrounding communities.
“We’re doing everything we can to contain these fires,” Newsom said. “We’re working closely with local authorities, with the federal government, to make sure we’re doing everything we can to protect lives and property.”
Newsom emphasized the importance of evacuation orders, urging residents to follow instructions from local authorities and to prioritize their safety.
“We’re doing everything we can to get people out of harm’s way,” he said. “We’re working to make sure that people have a safe place to go, and that they’re getting the support they need.”
Newsom also discussed the challenges posed by the fires, including the dry conditions and strong winds.
“These fires are moving fast, and they’re moving unpredictably,” he said. “We’re doing everything we can to stay ahead of them, but it’s a tough fight.”
Despite the challenges, Newsom expressed optimism about the efforts to contain the fires.
“I’m confident that we’re making progress,” he said. “I’m confident that we’re going to get these fires under control, and that we’re going to protect the people and the communities that are affected.”
Newsom also praised the bravery and dedication of the firefighters battling the blazes.
“These firefighters are heroes,” he said. “They’re putting their lives on the line to protect others, and we’re grateful for their service.”
As the situation continues to unfold, Newsom urged residents to stay informed and to follow instructions from local authorities.
“We’re going to get through this,” he said. “We’re going to get these fires under control, and we’re going to rebuild and recover. But for now, let’s focus on staying safe and supporting each other.”
