Butler County first responders to join Trump’s inaugural parade
A group of 14 first responders from Butler County will join a parade for the 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, on January 20, 2017.
The group, which includes firefighters, police officers, and emergency medical technicians, will march in the inaugural parade in Washington D.C. alongside representatives from all 50 states and several U.S. territories. The event is a tradition that dates back to the first presidential inauguration in 1789.
The Butler County responders were selected through a competitive process to represent Ohio in the parade. They will be accompanied by a Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper and a member of the Ohio Statehouse Swarts from Columbus.
“We are honored to be selected for this incredible opportunity,” said David Cupp, assistant chief of the Hamilton Township Fire Department, which has the most participants from the county. “We are excited to represent Ohio and Butler County at this historic event.”
The responders will be treated to a special breakfast at the U.S. Capitol before the parade, and then will join millions of others in viewing the parade along the 18-mile route. The parade will run from Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House, featuring marching bands, floats, and performances from around the world.
Cupp added, “This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and we want to make sure to make the most of it. We will be waving to the crowds and enjoying every moment of it.”
The inaugural parade will take place on the morning of January 20 and can be watched live on television or streamed online.
