Bryson DeChambeau Pulls Off Iconic Bunker Shot, Looks to Revenge Against McIlroy in “The Match”
Bryson DeChambeau pulled off an incredible golf shot at the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2, saving par from a bunker on the 18th hole to win his second U.S. Open title. However, DeChambeau knows he got some help from a struggling Rory McIlroy, who bogeyed three of his final four holes and missed two putts inside of three feet.
The two golfers will face off again in “The Match,” a golf competition featuring “LIV vs. PGA” teams. DeChambeau will team up with Brooks Koepka to take on McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler.
Earlier this week, McIlroy expressed his desire to “get back” at DeChambeau for his U.S. Open victory. DeChambeau responded by saying “Well, to be fair, you kind of did it to yourself” during a hit on the range.
DeChambeau has spoken about the U.S. Open win, saying that he thought about the tournament “every day” and that the bunker shot was amazing, but not the only reason he won. He credited his up-and-downs and other shots throughout the tournament for his victory.
Had DeChambeau not made that par putt on 18, he and McIlroy would have faced off in the first aggregate playoff in U.S. Open history.
This week, McIlroy may get his chance at revenge as the two golfers compete in “The Match” at Shadow Creek.
