New Orleans Saints’ Playoff Hopes Dwindle After Injuries to Quarterback Derek Carr
The New Orleans Saints, currently sitting at 5-8 and two games behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Atlanta Falcons in the NFC South, face an uphill battle to make the playoffs with their remaining four games against Washington, Green Bay, Las Vegas, and Tampa. According to Next Gen Stats, their playoff probability stands at a mere 1%.
However, the team’s chances have taken a further blow with the probable injury to quarterback Derek Carr. Rapoport and Pelissero, NFL Network Insiders, reported that Carr suffered a fracture in his left, non-throwing hand while diving for a first down with under four minutes to go in the game. He was also checked for a concussion after the win. Rizzi, the team’s coach, did not provide any further updates.
Despite the injury, tight end Juwan Johnson praised Carr’s effort in the game. “He’s just trying to win and in a game like that, a first down or two and you put them away,” Johnson said. “He tried to do it for us.”
It remains to be seen how the Saints will adapt to the loss of their quarterback, but for now, their playoff hopes seem to be all but over.
