A video from December showed Mark Gastineau confronting Brett Favre about Michael Strahan sacking the Green Bay Packers legend to break his single-season sack record. According to the story, Favre appeared to fall onto the field before being tackled by Strahan, giving Strahan the record in the 2001 season. Gastineau accused Favre of taking a “dive,” a claim that has been disputed by Favre.

The incident occurred during the final game of the 2001 season, and it remains controversial. In an interview, Gastineau said that Favre had “hurt” him and that he was going to “take my sack back” during a recent meeting at a memorabilia event.

Favre denied any intentional attempt to break the record, stating that he had spotted a camera and admitted he was worried about the situation. He claimed that the encounter was planned by ESPN or NFL Films, and that he was not trying to “hurt” Gastineau, but rather was trying to avoid a sack.

The controversy has sparked debate among football fans and is featured in ESPN’s 30 for 30 documentary, “New York Sack Exchange.” Super Bowl LIX will be streamed on Tubi.
