what was intended to be a dazzling festive spectacle ended in injury to a 7-year-old boy after several drones unexpectedly fell from the sky during a show at Orlando’s Lake Eola Park on Saturday night, according to CNN affiliate reports.

Videos shared by witnesses show dozens of lit-up drones flying in synchronization before multiple systems began dropping from the sky. Aboy was hit by one of the falling drones and flown to an area hospital.

The boy, who suffers from a heart condition and underwent open-heart surgery according to his mother, were hit in the chest “with such force that damaged one of his heart valves.” His mother said. “The blade cut his mouth, but there’s an actual imprint of the drone on his chest.”)

Footage shows multiple drones colliding out of control and falling into the lake and on land, prompting viewers to duck and take cover. The incidentoccurred during the first and only drone show of two scheduled for the evening.
The Federal Aviation Administrationconfirmed the incident and announcedan investigation. Orlando city officals released a statement condolences to the family and confirming that paramedics were staioned nearby and providedimmediate aid.

Theevent was hosted by SkyElements, a vendor that operates drone shows across the U.S. The company expresed regret for the distraction and inconvenience caused and was working with authorities to investigatethe cause ofthe incident.
