Boeing to Layoff 396 Workers in Washington State

Boeing Lays Off 396 Employees in Washington State as Part of Broader 10% Global Workforce Cut

As the company continues to face a tumultuous year, Boeing has announced that it is laying off 396 employees at locations in Washington state as part of a broader 10% global workforce cut. The move is expected to impact approximately 17,000 jobs within the company.

The layoffs are part of a restructuring effort aimed at revamping the company following a crisis-filled year that has seen a number of setbacks, including a mid-air blowout on an Alaska Airlines flight and a series of safety concerns on flights across the country. Boeing’s CEO departed earlier in the year, and the company has had to slow production as regulators investigate its safety culture.

The layoffs are aimed at reducing the company’s global workforce by 10%, and will also impact employees in Oregon, South Carolina, and Missouri. Eligible employees will receive severance pay, career transition services, and subsidized health care benefits for up to three months after leaving the company.

The company’s latest move comes as it is also facing a strike from its factory workers, which has forced the company to stall production of its strongest-selling 737 MAX jet. Boeing’s global workforce totals over 60,000 employees, with the company announcing that it will be laying off a total of 2,199 workers in Washington state, in addition to the 396 workers already impacted by the latest round of layoffs.
