Boeing to Lay Off Over 100 Employees in Florida Starting in 2025
Boeing has issued layoff notices to over 100 employees across Florida, with locations including Titusville and the Kennedy Space Center, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act letter. The layoffs are part of the company’s effort to “align workforce levels with financial realities and a more focused set of priorities.”
This news comes after Boeing issued cuts to approximately 17,000 employees in October, which equate to 10% of its workforce, following a labor union strike. At the time, the company stated that it was necessary to “adjust our workforce levels to align with our financial reality and a more focused set of priorities.”
The decision to issue layoff notices is attributed to the company’s need to adjust to a changing market, with CEO Kelly Ortberg stating that trust in the company has eroded and it is saddled with too much debt. Despite this, Ortberg also sees great opportunities ahead, citing a backlog of roughly half-a-trillion dollars and a customer base that wants and needs the company to succeed.
The news has left experts in the field concerned about the impact on the affected employees and the future of the program. “I’m very concerned for the people and the program,” said Ken Kremer, a local space expert and founder of the online publication Space Upclose.
