Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde’s Plea to Trump Sparks Political Debate
Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde joined “The View” on Wednesday to discuss her “mercy” plea to President Donald Trump at a prayer service earlier this week. Budde, who asked the president to have “mercy” on the LGBT community and immigrants, believes it was impossible for her message not to be politicized given the current political climate.
When asked if she thought her message was being “misconstrued” or “politicized,” Budde replied that it was natural for her message to be seen as politicized, given the current climate. She also acknowledged that the culture of contempt can lead to negative interpretations of what people are saying.
Budde’s comments drew attention at the prayer service, where she spoke about the need for mercy and compassion, particularly for marginalized communities. Trump and Vice President JD Vance, along with their spouses, listened stone-faced as Budde made her remarks.
In an interview with “The View,” Budde also expressed her desire for a one-on-one conversation with Trump, but noted that the invitation would have to come from him. Trump had previously criticized Budde, calling her a “Radical Left hard line Trump hater” who had brought her church into the “World of politics in a very ungracious way.”
