Buffalo Bills offensive tackle Dion Dawkins is on a mission to bring recognition to his fellow offensive linemen. He believes that the lack of awards and accolades for their position is unfair, given the crucial role they play in the game.
Dawkins pointed out that while there are awards for quarterbacks, running backs, and other positions, there is no equivalent recognition for offensive linemen. He is determined to change this by starting a campaign to create an “Offensive Lineman of the Year” award.
The NFL currently only recognizes defensive linemen with the Walter Payton Man of the Year award, which is given for community service. Dawkins believes that this is not enough, and that his position deserves more recognition.
At the college level, there are several awards that recognize outstanding performance by offensive linemen, including the Lombardi Award, the Outland Trophy, and the Rimington Trophy. Dawkins is hoping to bring a similar level of recognition to the NFL.
As a four-time Pro Bowler, Dawkins is well-positioned to lead the charge for his fellow offensive linemen. He is committed to making a difference and bringing recognition to a position that is often overlooked.
