The Crow, a 2024 remake of the 1994 gothic cult film, was universally panned by critics and audiences alike. Despite the controversy surrounding the film, even its star, Bill Skarsgård, has criticized it. Skarsgård plays Eric, a dark anti-hero who rises from the grave to kill those responsible for his and his lover Shelly’s (FKA twigs) murder. The film ends with Eric sacrificing himself to save Shelly’s soul, while she is resuscitated and left to live on.
The final 20 minutes of the film see Eric confront the main villain, Vincent Roeg, and ultimately dispatch him to the afterlife, freeing Shelly’s soul in the process. Eric then brings Shelly back to life using his powers, but at a great personal cost. The film ends with a voiceover from Eric, stating that he is left to roam the underworld, but that Shelly will keep their love alive. The implication is that Eric’s soul is left to long for Shelly’s, as he says, “Almost enough” to ease his pain.
