Liberal Comedian Bill Maher Blasts Left for Cutting Off Family Over Politics

On his podcast “Club Random”, Bill Maher and fellow comedian Jay Leno bonded over the late Sammy Davis Jr.’s famous hug with President Richard Nixon. Leno recalled how he was seen as a “traitor” among Hollywood liberals for his embrace of the Republican president.

Maher lamented the current political climate, saying that people are not allowed to have friends from the other side or cross political lines. He criticized the left for ostracizing those who associate with Republicans, saying “F— off, you f—s” to those who would cut off family members over politics.

Maher recalled how Sammy Davis Jr. was ostracized by the left for hugging Nixon, an “early harbinger” of the left’s hostility towards associating with Republicans. He also took aim at Yale University chief psychiatry resident Dr. Amanda Calhoun, who said it was okay to cut off relatives who voted for Trump and not be with them for the holidays.

Maher expressed a similar sentiment on his HBO show “Real Time” last month, criticizing Calhoun’s advice and saying that it’s not okay to isolate people over politics. He emphasized the importance of reaching out and understanding why someone feels a certain way, rather than prejudging them as a monster.

Maher’s comments come as a stark contrast to the liberal narrative of cutting off family members who voted for Trump. He believes that this kind of behavior will only exacerbate the divide in the country, rather than bringing people together.
