Bill Belichick’s contract remains unsigned, but GM Kris Range pours cold water on speculation he’ll leave UNC.

NFL Teams May Be Able to Hire Bill Belichick Without Owning a Dime

Coach Bill Belichick has yet to officially sign his contract at the University of North Carolina, which could create an issue with his buyout. According to CBS Sports, Belichick’s contract details show a $10 million buyout if he were to leave for another job before June 1, but it drops to $1 million after June 1. This has led to speculation over whether Belichick will be at UNC for the long haul.

Despite the uncertainty, UNC General Manager Michael Lombardi insists that Belichick is committed to the school and is focused on his new role. In a recent social media post, Lombardi wrote that Belichick is currently recruiting in DC and Baltimore and is “overly committed” to UNC.

However, multiple NFL teams have reportedly reached out to Belichick to gauge his interest in coaching again at the professional level. Despite this, Lombardi claims that Belichick has shot down every single opportunity that has come his way.

“I was with Bill every day during the fall. We talked about every single NFL job that could open up, and every time I would bring one up with hopes that he would be interested, he shot it down. He’s where he wants to be,” Lombardi said.

Belichick has been relatively quiet on the matter, with his girlfriend Jordon Hudson recently posting on Instagram that she and Belichick are “overly committed” to UNC. It remains to be seen whether Belichick will ultimately officially sign his contract with UNC or take a shot at an NFL coaching job.
