President Joe Biden to Announce Recipients of Presidential Citizens Medal

President Joe Biden will formally announce the recipients of the Presidential Citizens Medal on Thursday at 5 PM. The list of 20 individuals includes a notable name, Liz Cheney, a former Republican member of Congress and vocal critic of President-elect Donald Trump.

The Presidential Citizens Medal is awarded to citizens of the United States who have performed exemplary deeds of service for their country or fellow citizens. The medal is presented to individuals who have demonstrated commitment to serving others and have made a significant impact on their communities.

* Diane Carlson Evans, an Army nurse who founded the Vietnam Women’s Memorial Foundation.

* Nancy Landon Kassebaum, the first woman to represent Kansas in the United States Senate.
* Ted Kaufman, a former United States Senator from Delaware who championed everyday Americans and public servants.
* Carolyn McCarthy, a nurse and advocate who served 18 years in Congress.
* Louis Lorenzo Redding, a groundbreaking civil rights advocate who argued against segregation in the Supreme Court.
* Bobby Sager, a photographer and philanthropist who has worked to connect people in war-torn countries.
* Collins J. Seitz, a state judge who integrated a white public school in Delaware.
* Eleanor Smeal, a women’s rights activist who led massive protests and galvanized women’s votes.
* Bennie G. Thompson, a former Congresswoman who chaired the House January 6th Committee.
* Mitsuye Endo Tsutsumi, a Japanese American who challenged the injustice of her incarceration during World War II.
* Thomas J. Vallely, a United States Marine who has worked to bring Vietnam and the United States together.
* Frances M. Visco, a breast cancer survivor and advocate who has fought for increased Federal funding for breast cancer research.
* Paula S. Wallace, a lifelong educator and trailblazer of the arts who founded the Savannah College of Art and Design.
* Evan Wolfson, a lawyer who led the marriage equality movement and helped millions of people win the right to love and marry.

The awards will be presented at the White House on January 2, 2025.
