Lions’ Play-Calling Mastermind Johnson Expected to be in Demand as Head Coach
The Detroit Lions’ offensive transformation under Dan Campbell’s guidance has left many teams clamoring for the services of play-calling mastermind Darrell Bevell, 38. Bevell has remained one of the hottest candidates for head coach openings for the second straight hiring cycle, with the Lions’ offense ranking in the top five in points and total yards since 2022.
The Chicago Bears, in particular, are expected to take a close look at Bevell, whose ability to mentor young quarterbacks could be the perfect solution for their own signal-caller, Caleb Williams. Williams has shown flashes of brilliance but has struggled for consistency, making maximizing his potential a top priority for the Bears.
In addition to Bevell, the Bears are expected to consider a range of candidates, including Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, Bills OC Joe Brady, ex-Titans coach Mike Vrabel, Commanders OC Kliff Kingsbury, and internal candidate Thomas Brown. The team will need to wait until after the regular season to begin official interviews, but the process has reportedly already begun.
