The Chicago Bears, with nothing to play for outside of ruining the Packers’ playoff seeding, sent out their A-game on Sunday in Green Bay. The first touchdown came courtesy of a punt return trickery, as Josh Blackwell scored from 94 yards away after the Packers were oblivious he even had the ball. The trickery involved sending out two returners near the end zone, with one acting like the ball was going their way, allowing Blackwell to catch the ball and start running towards the end zone. The Packers were only able to catch on to the ruse once Blackwell was tackled by blockers, but it was too late. Blackwell even celebrated by attempting a “Lambeau Leap” into the stands, adding insult to injury for the Packers.
Despite the Bears’ season ending with a 4-12 record, the Packers’ playoff seeding is still at stake, with a win and a Washington Commanders loss securing the No. 6 seed. The Cowboys and Commanders are in a close matchup on Sunday, which would determine the Packers’ fate. The Bears’ season started with optimism surrounding quarterback Caleb Williams, but a 10-game losing streak ultimately led to the firing of head coach Matt Eberflus and GM Ryan Poles. The team is now focused on building around Williams for the future.
