Bears’ Matt Eberflus Defends Late-Game Decision

Bears’ Coach and Quarterback Defend Decision-Making in Final Play

Bears head coach Matt Eberflus and quarterback Trevor Williams defended their decision-making in the final play of the game, which ultimately resulted in an incomplete pass. According to Eberflus, the plan was to re-rack the play and get into field goal range before calling a timeout, but the team ended up holding onto the ball with 13 seconds left. Williams explained that he changed the play just before that moment, opting to try and take a shot rather than running out the clock.

Eberflus praised the team’s handling of the situation, stating that they did the right thing by re-racking the play and trying to get into field goal range. Williams also defended his decision, explaining that with 13 seconds left, they didn’t have the luxury of taking a clock-killing play. Instead, he tried to give his receiver, Rome Odunze, a chance to make a play. Despite the incompletion, Williams felt that the adjustment he made was the right one, given the circumstances.
