Chicago Bears Snap 10-Game Losing Streak with Thrilling Win Over Green Bay Packers
The Chicago Bears didn’t exactly play spoiler to the Green Bay Packers’ season on Sunday, but they did provide a thrilling conclusion to their own campaign with a 24-22 win at Lambeau Field. The victory marked the end of the Bears’ 10-game losing streak, as well as their 11-game skid against the Packers.
Kicker Cairo Santos provided the game-winning drama, nailing a 51-yard field goal with just seconds remaining. The kick came after the Packers’ Brandon McManus had tied the game with a 55-yard field goal of his own.
The Bears’ offense, led by quarterback Caleb Williams, faced a daunting task after McManus’ kick. With one timeout remaining, Williams and the offense needed to gain just the right amount of yardage to get into range for Santos’ game-winner. A 15-yard penalty on a horse collar tackle provided the necessary cushion, and Williams followed up with a 12-yard pass to Rome Odunze to midfield.
After an illegal shift nullified a 12-yard gain, Williams connected with D.J. Moore for an 18-yard pickup, setting up the winning kick.
The win wasn’t without drama, as the loss dropped the Packers to the No. 7 seed in the NFC playoffs. They’ll now face the No. 2 Philadelphia Eagles in the playoffs, rather than the No. 3 Los Angeles Rams.
The Bears, meanwhile, ended their season on a high note with a 5-12 record. They’ll look to build on the momentum heading into next season, with Williams leading the way at quarterback. Moore also had a strong game, catching nine passes for 86 yards and a touchdown. D’Andre Swift added a touchdown run to the Bears’ cause.
