Baseball stars Ryan Braun and Mike Moustakas join Bob Uecker to discuss LA wildfires.

Ryan Braun and Mike Moustakas, both current and former Major League Baseball players, respectively, spoke out about the devastating LA wildfires that have been affecting the region. Braun, a first baseman for the Milwaukee Brewers, and Moustakas, a infielder for the Milwaukee Brewers, addressed the topic on the “On the Rise” podcast with friends, comedians, and Brewers’ scouts, Pat Marks and Jim Passon.

“I’m from California, so I’ve seen it a couple of times before, but it’s always tough to see,” Braun said. “I’ve had friends who have lost their homes, and it’s tough to see people’s livelihoods affected in that way.”

Moustakas, who is also from California, shared a similar sentiment. “It’s crazy, because you’re used to seeing it on the news, but you never think it’s gonna happen to you or your friends,” he said. “But anytime you can help, anytime you can do something, it’s great.”

Braun also mentioned his favorite TV announcer, Bob Uecker, who is from the same region. “He’s from LA, so I’m sure he’s dealt with it firsthand,” Braun said. “Uecker’s got a great sense of community, and I’m sure he’s been helping out on the ground.”

The conversation on the podcast transitioned to Uecker, who is not only a beloved TV announcer but also a comedian. The two players shared a funny story about Uecker’s trademark humor. “He’s always making fun of people, but in a loving way,” Moustakas said. “He’s like the ultimate dad. He’s always making fun of us, but you can tell he loves us.”

The podcast also touched on the players’ own experiences with the elements, whether it’s freezing temperatures or extreme heat. Braun shared a funny story about playing a game in 35-degree weather, “And we’re all just standing there, shivering, trying to stay warm. Uecker’s yelling out, ‘This is what I call a real ballgame! You think the rain is coming? This is the real rain! This is the rain of the gods!’ We’re all just dying, laughing.”
