Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield has filed a lawsuit against his own father, James Mayfield, and his company, Canwood Capital, for $12 million. Mayfield claims that his father’s company transferred money from his account and his wife’s account without their authorization between 2018 and 2021.

The two parties had reached a settlement in January, with James Mayfield agreeing to pay nearly all of the owed amount back. However, Baker Mayfield alleges that he has not received any of the payments, despite the first payment of $250,000 being due on September 30. The lawsuit claims that the defendants have failed to refinance their existing loan and have not provided the plaintiffs with access to their books and records.

The suit alleges that James Mayfield’s company attempted to obscure relevant information, avoided the Mayfields’ inquiries, and invented fictional explanations for their actions. The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in the Austin Division of the Western District of Texas and is nine pages long.

Baker Mayfield is currently in his second season with the Buccaneers, having signed a three-year, $100 million pact last year. The team recently defeated the New York Giants, 30-7, with Mayfield scoring a rushing touchdown and making an Italian-hand gesture to pay tribute to Tommy DeVito.
