Babygirl breaks Nicole Kidman’s 13-year Rotten Tomatoes streak with a fresh critical reception.

Nicole Kidman is a renowned actress who has had a successful career spanning decades. She has appeared in various genres, including the recent release of the erotic thriller Babygirl, which has received a 77% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Kidman’s breakout role was in the 1989 ocean thriller Dead Calm, and her subsequent roles in the 1990s further solidified her position in Hollywood. In addition to babygirl, she has starred in erotic thrillers such as Eyes Wide Shut, proving her suitability for this genre.

Despite her success in some of her movies, Kidman has also faced a streak of negative reviews in recent years. Her 2023 movies, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and A Family Affair, received low scores from critics, with Rotten Tomato scores of 33% and 36%, respectively. Her 2024 movies, Spellbound and Babygirl, have fared better, with scores of 45% and 77%, respectively.

Babygirl has been praised by critics for its well-written story, masterful performances, and self-contained plot. Its themes are also more critically appealing than those of Kidman’s recent films. For example, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and A Family Affair have similar storylines, but they do not elicit the same level of critical acclaim.

The success of Babygirl is a welcome change for Kidman, who has not had a streak of successful movies in over a decade. Her previous bad streak was in the early 2010s, which continued until the release of Stoker in 2013. It’s possible that Babygirl will serve as a reminder of Kidman’s talent in specific genres, such as drama and erotic thrillers, where she has previously excelled.
