Christopher Nolan’s Next Film: The Odyssey
Universal has announced that Christopher Nolan will be adapting Homer’s epic poem, The Odyssey, into a film. The movie will be a mythic action epic, shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology, and will be released in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.
The film will star Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, and Charlize Theron. This marks a change of pace for Nolan, who has previously worked on period pieces such as Oppenheimer and The Prestige. However, he has dealt with fantastical material in the past, including making Batman believable and bringing realism to sci-fi concepts.
The Odyssey has been adapted multiple times, including the 1954 film Ulysses and the 2000 film O Brother, Where Art Thou?. The story of the Trojan War has also been brought to the screen, including the 2004 film Troy, which starred Brad Pitt and Sean Bean.
Nolan has had a successful year, winning his first Oscars for Oppenheimer and being knighted by King Charles in a ceremony last week. The Odyssey is set to be a new and exciting direction for the acclaimed filmmaker.
