Officials are searching for a “dangerous” inmate who escaped from a North Carolina prison on Tuesday evening.
The inmate, identified as 34-year-old Christopher Smith, was last seen leaving the minimum-security section of the Sampson Correctional Institution in Clinton, North Carolina, around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety.
Smith is serving a 15-year sentence for robbery with a dangerous weapon and is considered a “high-risk” escapee, officials said.
He is described as 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 170 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a white shirt and blue jeans.
The Sampson County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol are assisting in the search for Smith, which is ongoing.
