Young Dolph Murder Suspt Walks Free 1 Day After Being Arrested
A man accused of the murder of rapper Young Dolph, Justin Johnson, has been released on bond just one day after his arrest. Johnson, 19, was taken into custody on Wednesday, but was freed on a $180,000 bond.
According to the Memphis Commercial Appeal, Johnson was arrested on a fugitive from justice warrant in California, where a warrant was issued for his arrest. He is accused of shooting and killing 34-year-old Young Dolph, whose real name was Adolph Thompson, at a cookie store in Memphis, Tennessee.
The shooting occurred on November 2, 2021, and Young Dolph, a renowned rapper and songwriter, died on the scene. The motive behind the killing remains unclear, but police say they have video evidence linking Johnson to the crime.
Johnson’s release on bond came after a brief court hearing, where his lawyer argued that he was not a flight risk and had already spent time in custody. The judge agreed, setting his bond at $180,000. Johnson’s next court appearance is scheduled for January.
