Nurse in Arkansas Charged with Felony After Using Dead Man’s Name to Buy Prescription Pills
A nurse in Arkansas is facing three counts of fraud or deceit to procure a narcotic drug-forged prescription after using a dead man’s name to purchase oxycodone pills at multiple pharmacies.
Caitlin Carol Adams, a licensed registered nurse, allegedly used a fake prescription to buy 120 oxycodone pills at a pharmacy in Jonesboro, Arkansas, on January 2. She claimed to work at a nursing home and that the pills were for a patient. However, an investigation revealed that she had been fired from that nursing home on January 1.
Adams returned to the same pharmacy on January 6 with another prescription for 180 oxycodone pills under the name of a man who was later determined to have been a patient at the same nursing home where she previously worked. The man whose name was on the prescription had been dead since December 30.
The pharmacy refused to fill the prescription, and Adams then went to another pharmacy and purchased 180 oxycodone pills under the dead man’s name. She was arrested on January 24 and booked into the Craighead County Detention Center, where she was released on a $25,000 bond awaiting arraignment on March 20.
Adams’ license is currently under investigation.
