Arik Armstead plans to shift back to interior defensive line in 2025.

Title: Armstead Hoping for Fresh Start in New Season

Johnathan Armstead, the veteran defensive lineman, is looking forward to a fresh start in the upcoming season after a disappointing 2022 campaign with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The team signed him to a three-year deal last offseason, hoping he would boost their defense. However, the results were far from expected, with the unit ranking 27th in scoring and 31st in yards allowed, the worst finish in franchise history.

Armstead, who logged only 70 snaps combined between right and left defensive tackle spots, according to PFF, is eager to revamp his role on the team. He believes that the change in regime may allow him to play more as an interior defensive tackle, which is where he feels most comfortable.

The 32-year-old has had a notable career, including a standout season in 2019 where he accumulated a career-high 10 sacks while playing primarily at left end. However, in recent years, he has transitioned to a majority inside rusher, playing an average of 412 snaps per season.

Despite his recent struggles, Armstead remains confident in his abilities and is optimistic about his prospects for the upcoming season. He has overcome difficult situations in the past and is eager to do so again. “I’m someone who has been through every situation you can go through in the league, and I’ve always overcome it,” he said. “I’ve been in situations like this before where I had to break out of something and overcome it. I’m excited to do that next year.”
