Ariana Grande-Butera made an unusual request to protect her voice for a Wicked audition.

Ariana Grande-Butera Reveals Behind-the-Scenes Look at Her Wicked Audition

Ariana Grande-Butera, the pop star and actress, has opened up about her audition process for the new film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Wicked. In an exclusive interview with Variety, Grande-Butera shared her intense preparation and dedication to landing the role of Glinda.

According to Grande-Butera, she “hunted down” Marc Platt, the producer of Wicked, in order to secure an audition. She worked closely with a vocal coach and an acting coach for several months, perfecting her opera-style singing and classical acting skills, which are vastly different from her usual pop singing style.

Grande-Butera’s preparation was so intense that she even requested that the air conditioning be turned off during a filming day of The Voice, on which she is a coach, so that she could preserve her voice for the audition. She was so nervous about her voice being in good shape that she asked to cut the air conditioning, which is normally kept cold to keep the live audience awake.

Grande-Butera’s dedication to her craft was evident in her audition, which ultimately earned her the role of Glinda. Her story highlights the level of preparation and hard work required to land a role in a prestige project like Wicked.
