Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning confirmed on Monday that he has no plans to enter the transfer portal at the end of the season, putting to rest rumors that had been circulating about his future.
The redshirt freshman quarterback had been facing rumors about his potential departure, despite being the backup to Quinn Ewers for most of the season. However, after Ewers’ injury, Manning stepped up and played well, racking up 939 passing yards and nine touchdowns.
Manning acknowledged that being a backup quarterback has been an adjustment for him, especially considering his high school background as a celebrated quarterback and the son of a football legend. However, he expressed his commitment to helping the team win, regardless of his role on the field.
“I mean, I really have no plans on entering the portal or anything,” Manning said. “So, I don’t really know about it, about all the windows and everything.”
Manning credited Ewers for helping him learn the ropes of being a collegiate football player, and Ewers echoed the sentiment, stating that they have a good relationship and it makes it easy for them to work together.
Manning is well-positioned to become the starting quarterback in 2025, assuming Ewers decides not to stay in school for another year before turning pro. The Longhorns also have Trey Owens listed as a backup quarterback on the depth chart behind Manning.
