Here is the article:
Nine suspected members of the violent Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua (TdA) were charged in connection with a violent December home invasion, kidnapping, and robbery in Aurora, Colorado. The apartment complex had gained nationwide attention earlier this year after it was alleged to have been taken over by the gang.
The nine suspects, ranging in age from 20 to 31, were arrested on Monday and face various charges, including second-degree kidnapping, first-degree assault, aggravated robbery, second-degree burglary, extortion, and menacing. One of the suspects, Niefred Jose Serpa-Acosta, was already wanted on an active felony warrant for first-degree burglary and menacing with a deadly weapon.
According to police, the gang members, dressed in black clothing and masks, forced their way into a couple’s apartment at the Edge at Lowry Apartments, bound, beat, and stabbed them, leaving them seriously injured. The perpetrators also stole jewelry from the victims. The incident was described as “tortuous” by authorities.
The suspects are believed to be associated with the TdA gang, which has been known for its violent activities. However, establishing membership in the gang can be challenging, as members often do not publicly disclose their affiliation.
Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain stated that the investigation is ongoing and that authorities are working closely with Homeland Security Investigations and the Department of Homeland Security to establish the gang’s connection to the incident. The chief also expressed concern that the gang may have been extorting other victims, including the couple in this case, who were reportedly being extorted for $500 every two weeks.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are asking for anyone with information to come forward. Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
