The Las Vegas Raiders’ struggles continued on Monday night, with quarterback Desmond Ridder leading an offense that generated only 249 total yards and three giveaways. The team’s special teams unit also had a disastrous night, with two blocked punts, a blocked extra point, and a punt fielded at the 3-yard line that led to a safety.
The Raiders’ offense has been plagued by inconsistent play at quarterback, which has resulted in a bottom-five unit in total offense and scoring. The team has already gone through three starting quarterbacks this season, with Gardner Minshew, Aidan O’Connell, and Ridder each taking turns under center.
The team’s losing streak now stands at 10 games, the longest of the season and tied for the second-longest in franchise history. Head coach Josh Pierce, who earned the full-time job after a successful stint as interim head coach in 2023, is under pressure to turn things around. If he can’t, he may become the NFL’s next one-and-done coach.
There is some hope for the remainder of the season, however, with the potential return of O’Connell, who is “trending upwards to playing” in Sunday’s Week 16 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. A strong finish to the season could help Pierce avoid being fired and potentially return in 2025.
