Nashville High School Shooting Leaves One Student Dead, One Injured
A deadly shooting occurred at Antioch High School in Nashville, Tennessee on Wednesday morning, leaving one student dead and another injured. The gunman, 17-year-old Solomon Henderson, an active student at the school, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Henderson, armed with a pistol, fired multiple shots in the cafeteria of the high school. The motive behind the shooting is still unknown, but investigators are examining “very concerning” online writings and social media posts made by the shooter.
The shooting left 16-year-old Joseelin Corea Escalante dead and a 17-year-old boy injured. The injured student was treated and released from Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Mayor Freddie O’Connell released a statement expressing his condolences to the families affected and thanking first responders for their quick response. The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department is leading the investigation.
The White House and Tennessee Governor Bill Lee also issued statements offering their condolences and praising the first responders.
