Kansas City Chiefs Dominate Steelers, Lock Up No. 1 Seed in AFC
The Kansas City Chiefs weren’t in the holiday spirit last Christmas, when they fell to the Las Vegas Raiders at home. But this year, they felt the festive mood after dominating the Pittsburgh Steelers 29-10 on Wednesday.
Head coach Andy Reid, wearing a full-on Santa suit, led his signature “How ’bout those Chiefs” chant in the away locker room, telling his team, “Proud of you, dudes. For the present, you get home-field advantage.”
This wasn’t the first time Reid has dressed as Santa, and it certainly wasn’t the first time his team has earned home-field advantage in the postseason. The victory improved the Chiefs’ record to a franchise-best 15-1, locking up the No. 1 seed in the AFC for the fourth time in the last seven seasons.
That means the Chiefs will get a first-round bye and are guaranteed to host their divisional-round contest and, if they win, the AFC Championship Game. The team is 10-2 at Arrowhead Stadium with quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who noted that Reid “first the role perfectly, even as he’s kind of getting skinny for the Santa suit.”
The Chiefs will close out the regular season next week at Denver and then get a week off before beginning their quest to become the first NFL team to win three Super Bowls in a row.
