Miami Heat Star Tyler Herro and Houston Rockets Forward Amen Thompson Get Into Brawl on Court
A heated matchup between the Miami Heat and the Houston Rockets turned into a full-blown brawl on Sunday night, with both sides clearing their benches and getting involved in the incident.
The fight erupted in the fourth quarter with just 35 seconds remaining in the game, with the Heat leading 99-94. According to reports, Houston Rockets forward Amen Thompson threw Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro to the court, leading to the confrontation.
Both benches cleared as coaches and personnel from both teams tried to separate the two players. As a result, multiple ejections were handed out, with players from both teams involved.
Thompson, Jalen Green, head coach Ime Udoka, and assistant coach Ben Sullivan were ejected from the game for the Rockets, while Herro and Terry Rozier from the Heat were also ejected.
Despite the chaos, the Heat managed to win the game 104-100, improving to 16-14 on the season. The Rockets fell to 21-11.
Herro jokingly suggested that the Rockets’ poor shooting down the stretch led to Thompson’s frustration. “Guess that’s what happens when someone’s scoring, throwing dimes, doing the whole thing,” he said. “I’d get mad, too.”
Udoka attributed the brawl to the strength difference between the two players. “I didn’t see it live, but I re-watched it. They were in each other’s face, bumping chests a little bit, and one guy’s stronger than the other,” he said.
Herro led the Heat with 27 points, nine assists, and six rebounds, while center Bam Adebayo had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Nikola Jokić added 18 points off the bench.
Thompson had five points and five rebounds when he was ejected, along with five assists, while Dillon Brooks led the Rockets with 22 points. Alperen Sengun had 18 points and 18 rebounds.
