Ex-Obama Aides Share Insights on Democrats’ Election Loss and Trump’s Role in Cease-Fire Agreement
Jon Favreau, co-host of the popular podcast “Pod Save America,” recently appeared on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” where he shared his thoughts on the 2024 presidential election. Favreau blamed the Democratic Party’s loss on its failure to listen to the concerns of voters. He stated that the party’s initial decision to run Joe Biden for a second term despite public opposition was a major misstep.
“The majority of people said we don’t want Joe Biden to run again because he’s too old, and he should make room for someone else, and the White House said, ‘No, no, no, we’re good. The polls are wrong. He’s just going to run again, and it’s fine,'” Favreau said.
Favreau also emphasized the need for the Democratic Party to persuade voters and not simply focus on being right. He argued that being right is not enough and that the party must learn to listen to people’s concerns.
Meanwhile, Tommy Vietor, another co-host of “Pod Save America” and former Obama aide, gave credit to President Trump for his role in securing the recent cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hamas. Vietor acknowledged that Trump put pressure on Netanyahu and Hamas, which helped bring about the deal.
Colbert also asked Vietor about what had changed since the last cease-fire agreement that fell through in May. Vietor attributed the success of this latest agreement to President Trump winning and putting pressure on Netanyahu and Hamas.
Netanyahu praised both Trump and Biden for their roles in advancing negotiations for the cease-fire, noting that Trump’s assertion that Gaza should never again become a “haven for terrorism” was an important factor.
The cease-fire agreement, announced last Wednesday, resulted in the release of 33 hostages held by Hamas for six weeks in exchange for hundreds of Palestinians imprisoned by Israel.
