California Senator-elect Adam Schiff took to “Meet the Press” Sunday to discuss the Democratic Party’s election defeats, including Vice President Kamala Harris’ loss to President-elect Donald Trump.
Schiff, who previously predicted Harris would win “overwhelmingly,” placed blame for the loss on the “entire Democratic Party” and himself. He acknowledged that President Biden’s decision to step aside and let Harris take the reins gave the party a chance to win, but ultimately resulted in defeat.
Schiff attributed the loss to an “anti-incumbent wave” and the state of the economy, arguing that it has become increasingly difficult for working-class individuals to make a living wage. He claimed that the party needs to present a bold vision for moving the economy forward and making it work for every American.
When asked about former Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s claim that President Biden was responsible for the party’s loss due to his delayed exit from the race, Schiff deflecting, stating that Democrats need to present a new case to the American public and make the party representative of their interests.
Other Democrats have been quick to point fingers, with some blaming Biden for staying in the race too long, others saying Harris was to blame for covering up Biden’s mental decline, and even Vermont Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders pinning blame on the party for “abandoning” the working class.
Insiders and media pundits have also blamed the party’s shift away from blue-collar voters, as well as its adoption of “woke” progressive ideologies, for the loss.
