New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers will make his 241st career start on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, but it could be his last. At 41, Rodgers will decide before free agency in March whether to play in 2025. He’s in a reflective mood, grateful for his 20-year career, but also contemplating retirement.

Rodgers acknowledges that change is coming to the Jets and if he’s part of it, he wants to make sure everyone knows he’s grateful for his time with the team. He’s proud of what he’s accomplished, but expressed disappointment with his performance this season, citing the need for a mental and physical rest. He’s open to returning to the Jets if the new regime wants him back, but isn’t optimistic.

Rodgers, brought in by the Jets in April 2023, has had the best two years of his life, but a torn Achilles forced him to miss most of the 2023 season. He’s ranked 25th out of 33 qualified passers in Total QBR, with 24 touchdown passes and 10 interceptions.

Rodgers hopes to speak with the next GM and get a feel for the organization’s thinking, but first, he wants to rest. He believes that with proper rest and another year removed from surgery, he could be better in 2025. He’s on the verge of becoming the fifth player in NFL history with 500 touchdown passes and is 115 yards from passing Matt Ryan for seventh on the career list.
