A24’s latest horror comedy is poised to surprise audiences as a potential 2025 sleeper hit.

A24’s sleeper hit of 2025?

A24, responsible for some of the most unique genre outings of the last decade, has scored again with the trailer for its upcoming film, “Death of a Unicorn.” Directed by Alex Scharfman, the trailer is a gory horror-comedy that has taken everyone by surprise. But beneath its wild premise is a thought-provoking satirical commentary on societal attitudes towards exploitation.

At the heart of the story lies a father-daughter duo, played by Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega respectively, who accidentally runs over a unicorn, triggering a chain of events when its body is taken for medical examination by a pharmaceutical company. The CEO of this company, played by Will Poulter, intends to exploit the unicorn’s curative properties without much regard for its suffering, or the devastating effects his actions will have.

Carpenter, well known for his iconic works “Halloween” and “The Thing,” scored the film, further strengthening the narrative’s sense of ominous foreboding and supernatural menace. John Cena even joins the ensemble of Jenna Ortega, John Lennon, and Anthony Edwards among others.

This, for me, was initially raised a red flag the production of “Death of the Unicorn” may never receive a theatrical release considering we’re talking about here: an independent movie created independently, without a doubt A24 will also want for its movie and film by film to reach such, if it gets all A24 will continue supporting that.

It looks A24 is aiming for unique ideas that might initially give that feeling of ‘willy-nilly, even those with the lowest to higher budgets, this seems different from other indie firms’.
