Renner Trailer Released Ahead of Film’s Debut
The trailer for Frankie Muniz’s new film, Renner, has been released a month ahead of the film’s debut. Muniz, known for his role in the sitcom Malcolm in the Middle, takes on the title character in Renner, a computer genius who creates an AI life coach to help him in his love life. However, things take a turn when he realizes he accidentally programmed his manipulative mother into the code.
The trailer shows Renner struggling with his love life and assertiveness, but with the help of his AI project, Selenus, he seems to be making progress. However, as the events spiral out of control, Renner becomes paranoid and starts to suspect that someone is trying to steal the coding.
The trailer does not feature Renner’s Malcolm in the Middle costar, Craig Lamar Traylor, who plays Renner’s best friend Stevie. However, an exclusive clip from Entertainment Weekly reveals that Traylor is one of the tenants living in the same apartment as Renner, suggesting that their characters only know each other through passing.
Renner is directed by Robert Rippberger and also stars Violett Beane as Jamie, Renner’s love interest. The film marks Muniz’s return to leading roles in feature films after a seven-year hiatus. The release date for Renner has not been announced.
The trailer suggests that Renner is a character piece that explores the consequences of playing with fire when it comes to AI technology. With Muniz’s return to the big screen, the film could be an intriguing entry into the genre.
