A Texas teen, 17-year-old Aubrey Vanlandingham, is facing a felony charge of cruelty to a livestock animal after allegedly killing a competitor’s show goat with force-fed poison. According to a probable cause affidavit, Vanlandingham admitted to poisoning the 6-month-old goat, named Willy, on October 23, stating that the goat’s owner was a “cheater” and she doesn’t “like cheaters.”
The incident occurred at a barn at Vista Ridge High School, where surveillance footage showed Vanlandingham forcing the goat to drink the pesticide with a dredging gun. The goat later died 21 hours later.
As part of her bond agreement, Vanlandingham is prohibited from interacting with the victim’s family or caring for any animals without adult supervision. She is also required to submit to drug testing and has been ordered to not contact the victim’s family or friends.
The victim’s mother told the Daily Mail that Vanlandingham does not appear to be remorseful and wants her to be punished and receive mental help. Vanlandingham’s lawyer has maintained that she and her family are working to resolve any legal and non-legal issues raised by the allegations.
The case has been postponed to March, and Vanlandingham faces up to two years in prison or a fine of $10,000 if convicted.
