Stranded NASA Astronauts Celebrate Christmas in Space

Ad

Sunita “Suni” Williams and Barry “Butch” Wilmore, who have been stranded in space since June, are feeling festive this Christmas despite being thousands of miles away from earth. Williams recently got into the holiday spirit with fellow space explorers aboard the International Space Station, posing for a fun holiday season portrait with American astronaut Don Pettit.

The photo, captioned “Another day, another sleigh,” shows Williams and Pettit flashing smiles while wearing red Santa hats. However, the image raised one major question among those following Williams and Wilmore’s journey home: How did they manage to get their hands on Christmas clothes after being in orbit for over half a year?

The question was posed by a commenter who asked, “Where did the Santa hats come from if they’ve been stuck up there for months and only planned a short trip? Seems an odd unnecessary to have on hand…” Despite the curiosity, the stranded astronauts seem to be filled with cheer as they celebrate the holiday season in space.
