A Florida teacher, Joe Urias, 34, has been arrested after being found naked inside a classroom at Windmill Point Elementary School in Port St. Lucie. Authorities were initially called to the school after an alarm suggested a potential burglary was in progress. Upon arrival, they found Urias naked and surrounded by a bizarre assortment of items, including sex toys, women’s underwear, marijuana, food, and a laptop. He had also created a makeshift bed in the classroom.
Urias attempted to flee when he realized he had been seen, but was caught by officers and punched one of them in the face during the struggle. He was eventually subdued and arrested. Further investigation revealed that Urias had gained entry to the school through an unlocked window and had planned to stay there for the week, as he was homeless and schools were out for the Thanksgiving break.
Urias was fired from his job at Somerset College Preparatory Academy and faces multiple charges, including battery of a law enforcement officer, burglary, and lewd and lascivious behavior. A former law enforcement official speculated that Urias’s behavior may have been influenced by drug use or a mental health crisis.
The incident has left the Port St. Lucie community in shock, with many parents criticizing the school’s hiring procedures and calling for changes to ensure student safety. The school has released a statement emphasizing its commitment to student safety and outlining its hiring practices, including thorough background checks and screenings.
