Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva Undergoes Emergency Surgery to Drain Brain Bleed

Ad

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, 79, underwent emergency surgery on Tuesday to drain a bleed on his brain following an MRI scan that revealed an “intracranial hemorrhage.” The surgery was successful, and Lula is currently being monitored in the intensive care unit of Sirio Libanes hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The incident is linked to an earlier accident at his home where he fell and suffered a cut on the back of his head, just above his neck. The cut was visible after the fall, and doctors believe the two incidents are connected. This earlier accident previously forced Lula to cancel his planned trip to the 2024 BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia.

A news conference is scheduled to take place later on Tuesday, with doctors providing further details on Lula’s condition and treatment. Brazilian Labor Minister Luiz Marinho was among the first to publicly wish the president a swift and full recovery on social media.
