Saints Hang On to Win Despite Giants’ Late Comeback Attempt
The New Orleans Saints kept their playoff hopes alive with a 14-10 win over the New York Giants, thanks in large part to a blocked field goal in the waning seconds. The Saints led 14-3 heading into the fourth quarter, but the Giants rallied with an 82-yard touchdown drive, a two-point conversion, and a subsequent stop on defense.
The Giants had several chances to win the game outright, but the Saints’ defense held strong, and their special teams unit made a crucial play. Bryan Bresee blocked Graham Gano’s 35-yard field goal attempt, preserving the Saints’ lead.
The Giants’ offense struggled early, with quarterback Drew Lock completing just 6 of 19 passes for 52 yards in the first half. However, Lock rallied the Giants late, scrambling for 59 yards and throwing for 146 yards in the fourth quarter alone.
The Saints’ offense, on the other hand, hit a skid, failing to get much going on the ground despite the Giants being missing several key contributors. The team’s lack of aggression was also a problem, as they punted on fourth-and-2 from their own 46-yard line early in the fourth quarter.
The Giants’ defense, led by Chase Young, generated 10 pressures on 36 pass rushes, tying a career high in pressures. Young also generated nine of his pressures on 32 matchups against Giants left tackle Joshua Ezeudu.
The Saints’ special teams unit had a dismal day, with one miss and one field goal try blocked. However, they made up for it with Bresee’s blocked kick, which made up for an otherwise disappointing day in that phase of the game.
The win snapped the Saints’ losing streak and kept their playoff hopes alive, while the Giants fell to 2-10 and are now tied with the Raiders for the worst record in the NFL.
