A Texas Family Mourns the Loss of 7-Year-Old Girl Killed in Alleged Drunk Driving Crash
A Texas family is grieving the loss of their 7-year-old daughter, Ivory Smith, who was killed in a devastating crash on Sunday, December 1, at 2:45 a.m. The alleged drunk driver, 41-year-old Joel Gonzalez Chacin, appeared in court on Tuesday, charged with intoxication manslaughter.
Ivory, a 2nd-grade student at Klenk Elementary School in Houston, was killed when Chacin, who authorities say was intoxicated, T-boned her and her mother, Christina Quainoo, causing severe injuries to Quainoo. The family was just a few minutes from home at the time of the crash.
Gonzalez Chacin was seen taking photographs of the scene instead of helping the victims and then fled the scene. Police have set his bond at $150,000.00.
The family of Ivory, including her father, Keion Smith, and her injured mother, Christina Quainoo, are now facing a long road to recovery, both physically and emotionally. A GoFundMe page has been set up to support the family, with the funds raised going towards Ivory’s funeral expenses, medical bills, and other necessary expenses.
The family is also seeking justice for Ivory’s death, and the community is urged to keep the family in their prayers during this difficult time.
