Trump DEA Administrator Pick Withdraws from Consideration
Fox News senior national correspondent Aishah Hasnie reported that Florida Sheriff Chad Chronister has withdrawn his name from consideration for the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) administrator position. Chronister’s decision comes amid criticism from Republicans over his handling of lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Outgoing GOP Rep. Anthony D’Esposito, R-N.Y., is now gunning to be the next leader of President-elect Donald Trump’s DEA. D’Esposito has been working to consolidate support from regional law enforcement unions and has been actively making calls to people in Trump’s orbit to get his name to the top.
D’Esposito has been “campaigning pretty hard for this” and has been a respected member of Congress, demonstrating leadership and commitment needed to help Trump in his goal of making America safe again. The Nassau County Detectives Association has even lobbied for Trump to nominate D’Esposito to be the next head of the DEA.
As the next head of the DEA, D’Esposito would be Trump’s point man to help stem the massive flow of fentanyl making its way into the U.S. The agency is responsible for enforcing the controlled substances laws and regulations of the United States.
Fox News Digital reached out to Trump’s transition team for more information on where D’Esposito stands in terms of being named the next head of the DEA, but did not receive an on-the-record response by publication time.
